Thomas Hopley Obituary Died at his residence in Lewis, Nov. 9th, 1871, aged 69 years. Mr. Hopley was born in the town of Over, Cheshire, England, in 1802, was by occupation a farmer in his native shire until 1841, when he removed to Manchester, England. There he became extensively engaged in the provision business. After remaining some years in Manchester, he became dissatisfied with the old world, and having long cherished the idea of seeing the new world, he emigrated with his family in 1854 and settled in eastern Iowa, what then appeared to him, the wilds of America, and engaged in farming. From there he removed to Lewis, Cass County, where he has resided since, excepting one summer, in Colorado, in company with his faithful wife, who now survives him, wither the old couple went, partly for their health, and partly to visit two sons and daughters residing in Denver and vicinity. His illness was short and severe, but marked throughout with that gentleness and trust in his Maker he has always professed in life. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind and genial and honorable citizen. |
