William Muffley
Pension Application

In December 1881 William Muffley applied for an invalid pension based on his service in the War of the Rebellion, where he was wounded and where he suffered from sunstroke in April 1865.  Several veterans of the same service as William Muffley submitted supporting documentation.  In 1889 he applied for an increase in the benefits he received from his invalid pension application nearly eight years earlier.  In 1890 William Muffley applied for disability pension.  At that time he was in the care of his son, also named William Muffley, who also submitted testimony as to the state of his father.  In addition neighbors prepared affidavits of support.  Immediately following William Muffley's death in January 1895, his wife filed for a widow's pension.

These original papers are located in his file in the National Archives in Washington, DC.
